Yesterday's Show

Part One - Part Two

Good show...played a bunch of new music and some classics, including UGK and the LOX. I'll be signing up for slots for next week tomorrow so I'll let you know when our special finale show is going to be. I can't believe how fast this semester has gone by-it seemed like just yesterday we were arguing over whether 50 or Kanye were going to sell more on 9/11 (which is hilarious in hindsight). Anyway, enjoy the show and check back tomorrow for the times of our finale.

12.06.2007

Show Tomorrow

What's good everybody-we have our last regular show of the season tomorrow. Expect some new Hi-Tek, Styles, One Be Lo, Lupe, Prodigy, and Saigon (which we didn't get to play last week), among some others. We'll also try to get in some nice discussion on a variety of things, including the Little Brother concert we saw the other day (amazing) and the tragic passing of Pimp C and shooting of Spice-1 and their effects on hip-hop and its image. We may hit up some sports too.

We also will probably be able to determine an exact date for our special finale. If we can secure a spot, we'll announce the show on air tomorrow. If we're able to pull it off, I'll be real excited. More on that as it comes along.

See you in a few hours...

12.03.2007

Friday's Show

Part One - Part Two

Good show. Tons of new music, including Outkast, Wu-Tang, Ghostface, Scarface and Freeway, as well as some nice NBA and NFL discussion. Enjoy.

11.28.2007

Um...

So add Ghostface, Styles, Scarface and the new Busta/Dilla mixtape onto that last.

I can't speak for times when I wasn't around, but this is the most ridiculous month or so in hip-hop that I can remember. If all of these releases aren't hype, then this will be the best year in hip-hop in at least ten years. Even with Mims.

See you Friday

11.25.2007

Goddamn...

Just got back from home for Thanksgiving...and mad albums leaked. For those interested in hearing some new stuff, snoop around and I'm sure you'll find them.

DJ Drama
Wu
Saigon (mixtape)
Cunninlynguists (without the tags all over it)
Beanie
Wyclef
Freeway (came out a week or two ago but still fresh)

For the lazy, we'll probably all give them all some burn on Friday. FYI the OutKast track from the Drama album is crazy...get on that if nothing else.

11.16.2007

Today's Show

Part One - Part Two

Great show today. Went through a lot of new music and rotation, and had some lively discussions, including why rappers should do more community service (in case they get shot) and why I hate Bob Dylan's fanbase, among other radical and ultimately annoying fanbases. Um...in other news, Freeway's album is leaked and it's not bad, though it's not the album of the year that some are claiming it to be. Oh, and here's someone shitting on The Cool, but judging his face, I wouldn't take him too seriously.

More updates to come over the weekend.

11.15.2007

Show Tomorrow

What's good everybody...we got another show tomorrow with some more new shit. Expect some Killa Cam, Freeway, Bishop Lamont, Lupe, Mega, Styles, Statik Selektah, and a bunch of classics...I think Marles is getting a Primo block ready, among other things. Also be sure to check out our segment with Green Street from last week, it was probably the highlight of our semester on the show so far...

Until tomorrow-
evy

11.09.2007

Today's Show

Part One - Part Two

And for those that just want to check out the Green Street section - I got you.

Props to Green Street who came in and killed it-check out their first album Livin on Green Street and their latest mixtape, Summertime Vibes. These guys are only getting better with every release, I can't wait for their next album.

Besides them, the show was cool I guess. Mad rotation, but we also got in some classic Nappy Roots and of course a block of songs from the new Cam'ron mixtape. I don't know if I actually like it like it or just jokingly like it, but the new Cam mixtape is a fucking monster. Just go get it at his myspace-it's two discs and free. I'll be listening all weekend.

Otherwise-keep it real until next week

-evy

Show in a few hours

We have a special show today-local group Green Street is gonna come in and chill with us for a bit. Definitely cool shit if you're into smoothed out, jazzy hip-hop. The producer-Renaissance/Max-goes to BU, so we'll be talking to him about their group and listening to some of their songs. I think that they're even gonna give us a live performance in the studio-I'm real excited. If you're interested in getting their album, it's available on Itunes.

For the second half of the show, we'll have to stick to mostly rotation, but we'll try to sneak some new shit in. J-Live? Cam? Wu? Saigon? Hi-Tek? Whatever we can get on. It's getting real cold in Boston, but Machine Gun Funk just keeps getting hotter. I'll get the archives up (hopefully) by Sunday.

Yes, we're still alive...

Last week's show: Part One - Part Two

Let's see...we had new Royce, Rhymefest, Jay, Crooked I, Joe Budden, Weezy and others...a good show overall. We even snuck in some NBA predictions-check it out.

As for news updates...fuck, it's not even worth it. So much has happened since I last wrote that I don't even know where to start. These days, news and new songs get old in six hours. I would say just check Nah Right for constant updates on songs and news.

10.25.2007

Show Tomorrow

The recording from last week got messed up. It recorded fine, but for some reason the volume on Winamp was turned all the way down so it recorded two hours of dead air.

Still, I remember the good old days when WTBU archived their own shit...

Not to mention that we now have to play 8 rotation songs in 2 hours rather than 6.

No really, I love having almost 40% of my playlist consist of Sage Francis and the NBA 2k7 soundtrack.

Whatever...in other news, the people before us have pretty much stopped coming to our show, so we decided to take over their hour. From 7-8 A.M. we'll be playing all kinds of genres: jazz, ambient, metal, shit...whatever fits the mood. Of course, there's always the chance that the people before us will actually show up for their show. But, if you tune in and hear Herbie Hancock playing, it's definitely us.

Otherwise it's business as usual tomorrow from 8 to 10 AM. I have no idea what Marles has, but it'll be new and classic stuff...um...probably some Fat Joe, Freeway, Lil' Wayne, Ghostface, Scarface, Wu-Tang, Saigon, among others. You know. Be sure to tune in at www.wtburadio.org and also IM us at WTBUradiodj.

marles and i are going to see little brother tonight

greatest hits on friday

Ras Kass Appreciation Post

I felt that, being as big of a fan as I am, I didn't give Ras enough justice when mentioning his release from Capitol the other day. This is huge for him because the label has literally been blocking him from putting anything official out for almost ten years. His albums that have come out in the last few years (Chinese Graffiti, Eat Or Die, Institutionalized, Revenge of the Spit) have all came through weird online retailers and have been pretty much unavailable to the masses. His last "official" album came out in 1998 and there probably hasn't been a Ras Kass album in a CD store this decade. Hopefully Ras' new deal can be with a label that has the will and means to back and distribute him.

Anyway, if you have never heard Ras, go get Soul on Ice now-it is easily one of the greatest albums of all time. Most hip-hop nerds have heard Soul on Ice but abandoned him after, so I have decided to up a few post-Soul on Ice tracks for you guys to enjoy.

H20 Proof (from Rassassination)
Write Where I Left Off (f/ E-40) (from Institutionalized)
Van Gogh (from Van Gogh)
The End (f/ RZA) (from Rassassination)
Future and Past (f/ Royce da 5'9") (from Revenge of the Spit)
Understandable Smooth (mid-90's track...no idea where this is from actually)

So...enjoy.

10.14.2007

Friday Links

Part One - Part Two

Pretty good show for the most part...hit on everything from Getback to Fiascogate to Budden's release to Peyton Manning...expect some kind of theme show next week.

Phonte leaks Getback
T.I. arrested on machine gun charges, faces 30 to 50 years in prison
Many years and shelved albums later, Ras Kass is released from Capitol Records
Nas' new album is slated to come out in December and is (again) tentatively titled "Nigga"

Those have pretty much been the big stories from the weekend. Getback is crazy...get on that if you haven't already. Marles and I are going to see Little Brother on Wednesday...maybe we'll do some type of "Little Brother greatest hits" for Friday.

EDIT: I reposted the link to part two for those interested

10.11.2007

Word Up!!

I agree absolutely looking back at the beginning of the year i didnt think there was gonna be alot of quality hip hop releases but hes absolutely right. There has been a lot of really quality releases in the hip-hop community. There are still many to come too I'm glad there are still great artits making music out there who still take hip hop serious and treat it as the art it is. The world still doesnt take hip hop as seriously as it because of comments from kanye 50 cent etc. but if we have more years like this i really think that it will get the respect it rightfully and truly deserves. 2007 proves that i still love h.e.r.......peace one love

m dawg

!!!

If you haven't heard yet, Joe Budden was released from Def Jam.

That's fine...Def Jam hasn't put out an album from him since 2003.

So now, he can start putting albums out. Mood Muzik 3, which last week was said to be "halfway done," is now apparently going to be released this December.

If you haven't heard Mood Muzik 2 yet (it came out two years ago), get on that. One of the best mixtapes, even albums, that I have ever heard, no joke. I'll play some of it tomorrow.

I know I did this like an hour ago, but let me reiterate what's coming out the rest of this year:
Jay-Z
Nas (greatest hits)
Little Brother
Wu-Tang
Ghostface
Lil' Wayne
Cunninlynguists
Saigon
Lupe Fiasco
Hi-Tek
Smif N' Wessun
Styles P.
Kool G. Rap
Pete Rock (?)
and now Joe Budden

This is in a year where we've already seen good or great albums from:
Army of the Pharaohs
Beastie Boys (instrumental but still)
Blu and Exile (heralded as a modern classic)
Brother Ali
Canibus
Chamillionaire
Common
Consequence
Devin the Dude
Dilla
El-P
Evidence
Kanye West
Killah Priest
Lil' Wayne (Drought 3 and Carter 3 Sessions)
Pharaohe Monch
Prodigy
Ras Kass
Redman
RJD2
Sean Price (album and mixtape)
T.I. (alright maybe not so great)
Talib Kweli (great great album)
Timbaland
UGK (crazy)

I don't know...this year has been and will be ridiculous. Props to everyone still making good music in 2007. 8 AM tomorrow.

Show Tomorrow

As usual, the show is tomorrow morning...be on the lookout for new Jay, Little Brother, Pete Rock, Mac Lethal, Smif N Wessun, Kool G. Rap, and whatever else comes to mind. Some classics as usual too. 8 AM-10 AM at www.wtburadio.org.

Mad Links/Updates

Yo what's up...I have the show from last week recorded but it's in a nine-hour file because I didn't come back to my house until the afternoon and Goldwave is saying it's too big to edit. If people want the nine-hour file then I'll up it or if someone has a program that can edit it, contact me. Otherwise, I'll just move on.

Since I can't up the show, I'll just provide you with some links of what we played:
Nas-Surviving the Times
Pete Rock f/ Jim Jones and Max B-We Roll
LL Cool J-New York Gangstas
Lupe Fiasco-Can You Let Me Know
Ras Kass-It Had To Happen
Masta Ace-Revolution's Bout To Start (from the Top Shelf 8/8/88 Compilation)
Atmosphere-The Rooster

We also hit up a few classic songs:
Ras Kass-Conceited Bastard
Kurupt f/ Roscoe-I Call Shots
Big Pun f/ Black Thought-Superlyrical

Some random hip-hop links from this past week:
Fiascogate: What happened, Lupe's response, Phonte's response to Lupe, Q-Tip's response to Lupe, Vibe Article on Lupe, and finally Lupe's plans to sue Vibe. This whole thing is a mess-it will definitely be a topic of conversation tomorrow.

More Fourth Quarter Releases: Besides the ones mentioned here, there's also Hi-Tek, Kool G. Rap, Smif N Wessun, Styles P and Ghostface. Speaking of Ghostface, he's also coming out with a book for "y'all smart dumb cats" out there.

Mobb Deep can't catch a break: Havoc bricks and Prodigy is taking an Up North trip for three and a half years.

More American Gangster: MTV News, Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, Nah Right-also, the Blue Magic video.

10.04.2007

Show Tomorrow/American Gangster Update

Yo...what's up everyone. We got the show tomorrow, as usual, at 8 AM. Not too much new stuff has come out, so we're probably going to be playing catch-up for the most part...stuff that's come out in the last few weeks or months that we've overlooked. Look for Atmosphere, Pete Rock, Wu-Tang, Cunninlynguists, Ras Kass, Killah Priest, songs from the Top Shelf compilation, and much more. Oh, and classics as always. Remember, listen to the show at www.wtburadio.org, and I should have the archives up by this weekend.

EDIT: Exclusive Preview of American Gangster

10.01.2007

Links from Friday's Show/Random Links

Yo..sorry for the long wait but here are the links to Friday's Nas vs. Jay show:

Part One - Part Two

Also...in other news, Saigon and Lupe are both scheduled for December release dates. What seemed like a bleak fourth quarter is starting to look good-besides those two, there's also Little Brother, Lil Wayne, Wu-Tang, Jay-Z, Cunninlynguists, Nas, and probably some others that I can't think of now.

Let's see, Kanye West's skit on SNL, as well as his performances of Stronger/Good Life and Champion/Everything I Am. The skit is hilarious with him making fun of his various award show tirades, and the performances are both good. Kanye even freestyles at the end of Everything I Am, albeit not a very good one. Oh, by the way-Kanye has a blog now?

Oh, and I know this isn't hip-hop, but what kind of blog would this be if I didn't mention the new Radiohead album coming out in nine days. Long story short, they're releasing it online themselves-the best part is that you choose how much you pay for it. I haven't really listened to them too much in the last few years (Hail to the Thief and the Thom Yorke solo album never really caught on with me), but this is still big news from one of the biggest bands of the last two decades. Touche to them on coming up with an original marketing ploy.

Remember-show this Friday, no theme this week. I'm trying to find some new music to play, if anyone has any suggestions let me know...

The Good Times Are Killing Me

Yo...real quick, I thought I should throw some props to the radio show I grew up on, The Good Times Are Killing Me. If you're a fan of indie and/or alternative rock, then definitely check it out. It's also hosted by WTBU and is on today from 6-8 pm. Eli, one of the hosts, also has a blog called Goose Got Me Loose-I have a link to it here if you look to the right. Indie, music videos, Lil Wayne...it's on point. Much respect to Pat and Eli for helping bring me up-listen to their show tonight!

Archives of Today's Show

Yo, what's up everybody. We had the show this morning and it went pretty well. It was far from great-we have a long ways to go, but it wasn't bad. We premiered the new Hov and got some other new music in: Cunninlynguists, Havoc, Grayskul, Will.I.Am, and Median along with a few others. The show fell off a bit in the second hour and I apologize for the bad pacing. The sound quality wasn't great either-I'll have to lower our mics and the music next time. But, if anyone was interested, we finally have new recordings from the show up, so please listen and comment.

Hour one - Hour two

We want to do a theme show next week...if anyone has any ideas, please let us know.

New Hov album this fall?

from HHNLive.com
"...Well it's looking more and more like Jay-Z will be releasing a new album in the coming months. Word is it will be called "Boss Hova" (horrible name...expect it to change). He's already recorded a track with Memphis Bleek and Beanie Sigel. Also look for production from Kanye, Just Blaze, 9th Wonder, and DJ Toomp. Hey, after YE moved over 900,000 in his first week you know Jigga must be eager to get rollin' again."

Sounds good to me. I think that I'm one of the few people that actually liked Kingdom Come...it wasn't a great album by any means, but it wasn't the disaster that everyone made it out to be. Maybe we'll play some of it on the show this Friday, it deserves a second listen...

EDIT:

New report from XXLmag.com...

"Ok, tomorrow morning, you’re gonna wake up and you’re gonna read an article in the New York Times about Jay-Z. Yup, comeback numero dos is true. Sorry allshitstop, it ain’t called Boss Hova. It’s called American Gangster. Inspired somewhat by the movie of the same name, but it’s a full studio album, no soundtrack. Release date: Tuesday Nov 6. But shit it might get bumped up to the same friday as the flick. Black Friday, fuckers.

New music is also coming manana. Produced by Pharrell. The other Louie Vuitton don. Flex drops bombs on it first. Then we put it up on the site. Synergy, suckers. Enjoy the rest of allshitstop week. Bfred’s back, I got Mr. Nah Right, Bill H and the Queenpen V Satten on the video tip. I’m ready to punish you pricks.

Update: The song is called “Blue Magic.” When you see the flick like I did this afternoon, it will all make sense.

Update 2: The streets are saying said song sounds 80’s-like and Rakim-ish. We shall see."

HOV!

My playlist a little late

This is more hot hip hop from the show on friday since we couldnt record it. In the future we will though so we wont have to post mad song links but we will be keeping y'all updated with the illest shit. Here's some of the songs i played...

Cee-lo ft. Nas-Less Than an Hour
http://www.zshare.net/audio/3727745aa39522/

Panacea-Aim High
http://www.zshare.net/audio/37278514343525/

Mr J Medieros from the procussions-Constance
http://www.zshare.net/audio/37278789713150/

Percee P-Throwback Rap Attack
http://www.zshare.net/audio/3727894218b705/

Blu & Exile-Below the Heavens Pt. 1
http://www.zshare.net/audio/37279257281a35/

Thats a good sampling of what i played on friday. I gotta give props to evan for updating the site and giving it a little makeover it looks really good. Also I agree with Evys comments on the Little Brother cd its gonna be an amazing LP. Everybody who even has the slightest interest in them u should cop the album. And all the haters out there who said that Little Brother needed 9th Wonder to survive, and they wouldnt be good without him wait to be speechless once this record hits the shelves. With producers like kryhsis, illmind etc behind the boards i have no doubt this will be in my top 5 of 2007. So if u guys dont know much of little brother and u like the getback sample i strongly encourage you to get their other cds and mixtapes cuz they are a great group. Thats it for now one love....

Getback Sampler...repost

Getback Sampler-I posted this last week but that was only after skimming it. I listened to the full thing and it is very impressive...I am now fully confident that this will be far and away one of the best albums of the year. Phonte, Big Pooh, the production...all crazy. Getback, 10/23.

Weezy F. Baby

Marles challenged me to put up some hot Lil Wayne shit to convert him, so here I am. I tried to get songs from a variety of his albums and mixtapes in the last few years to get a well-rounded scope of what he has to offer.

Show Me What You Got - If you have never been a fan, listen to this before anything else. Wayne absolutely kills this beat, and outshines Jay, Game, AZ, and anyone else who tried to flow over it. If you can't get into this at all, then just stop right here, because this is probably Wayne at his most impressive.

B.M. JR - From his first Carter album, this isn't as well developed as his later stuff but the first verse is still very impressive.

Hustler Musik - From Carter II...more of an impressive showcase of how his emotion and determination shines through the song than anything. This song is an anthem...someone on okayplayer called it his version of "Can I Live."

Georgia...Bush/Ambitionz -From Dedication 2, his mixtape with DJ Drama. The first part has him rapping about Katrina over the Ludacris "Georgia" beat, without a doubt the most introspective and political he's ever gotten. The second part just has him going off over Tupac's "Ambitionz Az A Ridah" beat for around four straight minutes.

Upgrade U -Again, he just goes off on the Beyonce beat for four minutes...some crazy lines/flows on this one.

Something You Forgot - Not too many people liked the leak Carter 3 sessions, but I actually enjoyed them. This was probably the best song on the whole album, a song lamenting his relationship with Trina (? I believe) over a Heart sample.

I don't know why I like Wayne so much or why he's as popular as he is. It's probably a combination of things...his lyricism, charisma, hunger and dedication probably all add to it. Wayne is far from the best rapper alive but he is definitely one of the easiest to listen to. In a day when everyone hates popular music because of ringtone rappers and one-hit wonders, Wayne has a passion that is nearly unrivaled in rap. Even if this passion results in quantity over quality (as with all Cash Money releases past and present), Wayne's mixtapes are still better than most rappers albums.

So...listen to these tracks objectively and enjoy/judge/respond accordingly.

9.14.2007

Mad Links

some of what we played today...some of these are older but still good

Cunninlynguists f/ Phonte and Witchdoctor-Yellow Lines (from Dirty Acres)

Kanye West f/ Mos Def and Al B. Sure-Good Night (bonus track from Graduation)

50 Cent-Smile (I'm Leavin) (unreleased track from Curtis)

Immortal Technique-Parole (from his upcoming DJ Green Lantern mixtape)

EPMD-Blow (from We Mean Buisness)

Murs-Dreadlocks (from Murs for President)

Wu-Tang Clan-Watch Your Mouth (from 8 Diagrams)

and as a bonus...

at the show now...

Quick thoughts while I'm here:

-Rotation is brutal and from last year...sweet that we're still playing Brother Ali and an E-40 song from a video game soundtrack. Step up your game WTBU.

-I don't think this show is even recording, so I'll just post up some links of what we played. To be honest, it's semi-good because we're still learning our way around the new equipment..hopefully we'll be in full force next week.

-Marles just challenged me to get some hot Lil Wayne shit...I'm gonna bombard it with links this week.

holla,
evy

Blu & Exile

Hey whats up everybody. I don't have any links but i was just i was just writing in to talk about the blu & exile lp titled "below the heavens". I just picked up this album like a week ago (even though its been out for a couple months) and i already have become fully absorbed in it. I usually dont get so hardcore about an album or particular group unless they are unordinarily good. This is absolutely the case. This album is 15 tracks of pure fire. The emcee in this case blu is only 22 years old but he spits behind exile's very soulful jazzy beats like hes been in the game for 20 years. His subject matter ranges from his life to his perception of heaven and everything in between. So all the fans of good quality hip hop please do your ears and soul a favor and grab this album. This album singlehandedly reminded me why i love hip hop. YES IT"S THAT GOOD. So if you've been waiting for the new pete rock & cl cop this album anyway you can thats it.....

p.s. there is a fake cam'ron rhyme book thats been out for a long time but i figured id post the link just because its absolutely hilarious
http://www.hiphopdx.com/blogs/andreashale/2007/04/24/cam-ron-s-killer-rhyme-book.html

A Few Random Links

I had a few random links that I was going to put in more elaborate posts, but fuck it-here they are:

Hour one and hour two of our two demo show from mid-May-the best of Kanye West. More appropriate now then ever, we went through some of his best beats and his best songs from his two albums (at the time) and random mixtape shit. The show itself was kind of amateurish, but it was a good time...we even had nice debates on Jigga and Kanye's Katrina speech. Anyone who has never listened to our show before should check these out to get a feeling of what to expect.

Sampler for Little Brother's Getback----uploaded by Phonte himself. If you haven't heard, it's been delayed until October. I've only skimmed through the sampler but it sounds pretty good from a quick listen. Here's the tracklist:

02) Breakin my Heart f/ Lil Wayne
03) That Ain't Love f/ Jozeemo
04) Uncle Mike's Dedication

Random shit

Whats up y'all just wanted to follow up on putting some of the stuff i was gonna play on the show last friday. Since evan was playing music thats on the commercial tip I'm more of an underground head myself so what im playing is alot of good quality shit. If you dig good beats and great rhymes then you'll probably like what im playin. So if you dont get too caught in the 50 and kanye "beef" (which was a brilliant move on both their parts as evan said before) give these songs a listen lay back and chill.....

9/11

Alright, so this is the day that every hip-hop fan has been waiting for. 50 vs. Kanye. Curtis vs. Graduation. Shout out to the marketing fucks who decided that it was a good idea to put the release date for the two albums on the anniversary of a horrible tragedy. Much like the "feud" itself, it's a cheap attempt to sell albums that's disappointing and yet will be ultimately successful. Look for both Kanye and 50 to both sell more albums then they should considering that neither of their current singles ("Stronger", "Ayo Technology") are anywhere near as popular as their older singles ("Jesus Walks", "Gold Digger", "In Da Club", "Candy Shop"). Despite of all this, I am still shamefully caught up in the hype. I am banking on Kanye to sell more albums, although I wouldn't be surprised (and would find it completely hilarious) if Kenny Chesney outsells them both. Lookout for my Curtis and Graduation reviews and a few other random hip-hop links and news throughout the day.

New Shit

Here are some of the songs that we were going to play on Friday's show-enjoy:

Kanye West-The Glory (from Graduation)

50 Cent f/ Akon-I'll Still Kill (from Curtis)

Chamillionaire-Ultimate Victory (from Ultimate Victory)

9th Wonder f/ Saigon and Joe Scudda-Saved (from the Dream Merchant Vol. 2)

Scarface-Never (?? no idea what this is from)

All of these are great songs (besides I'll Still Kill which is ehhhh but one of the better songs from Curtis). I'll post more on Graduation and Curtis later, but from a quick listen Ultimate Victory is a little underwhelming. I'm not a huge Chamillionaire fan but everyone was talking about how he was going to step it up on this one and I don't really see it. Dream Merchant 2 isn't out yet (I think it's out later this month) but the two songs I've heard-this and the song with Royce-are both great. If anyone wants the Royce song I'll post it later. No idea where the Scarface song is from but I like it a lot-maybe he has a new album in the works?

I'll try to post a bit about Graduation and Curtis by Tuesday. I'll also get Marles to post up some of the stuff he was planning on playing.

First Show Cancelled

For stupid reasons, the first show was canceled. To be honest, it wasn't even worth it considering that most people wouldn't be able to listen to it. I'll post up some mp3s of what I was planning on playing when I get a chance and I'll let Marles do the same for a few of his songs.

In the next few days I'll also post up short reviews of Graduation and Curtis, because those were both a focal point of the show today. I'm sure everyone has heard them at this point but I might as well give in to the hype.

P.S.: If you weren't already convinced that this "feud" is all bullshit to have both of them sell more albums September 11th, here's a link to some pictures from their Rolling Stone cover photo shoot together. I'm not really surprised, just more disappointed

Show Tomorrow

Yo, what's happening. We got the show tomorrow at 8 AM and we've been getting new music all day to put on it. Bad news though: for whatever reason, the WTBU site still isn't up. They're playing the station through Channel 6 on BUTV, which pretty much eliminates 99% of our prospective audience. Even worse, we can't archive or record the show so that I can't even post it up on here lately. If the WTBU site isn't up by tomorrow, I'll post up some of the songs that we're playing.

Be sure that we'll touch bases on everything that's come out lately, including the big two (50 and Kanye). We'll go over other new stuff...maybe some Chamillionaire? Lupe? Scarface? Technique? We'll also play some stuff that came out earlier in the summer...Blu and Exile, Common, Pharaohe, Talib, UGK, and etc.... As always, we'll have some classics too.

I apologize for those who were looking forward to the first show...this isn't a good look for WTBU to start off the year. I also get Marles to post before the show starts.

If you're listening to the show:
listen in at www.wtburadio.org or BUTV Channel 6 (the latter for tomorrow most likely)
IM us at WTBU DJ (while we're on live)
E-mail us at machinegunfunk0@gmail.com (at any time)
I actually don't have the phone number offhand, but I'll hook that up as soon as I know.

holla,
evy

Inaugural Post

Yo, what's going on everybody. This is going to be the official blog and website for Machine Gun Funk, the hip-hop radio show based in Boston University. I'm Evan Agovino, one of the show's DJ's. Andrew Marles is the show's other host/permanent special guest. The show is going to be on from 8 am-10 am every Friday until mid-December. We want to bring you hip-hop from all angles, whether it's underground, mainstream, old-school, new, whatever. As long as it's hot, it'll get some play on the show.

The purpose of the blog is two-fold. First, we want to get the name of our show out there. Even though the show is based in Boston University, we function solely as an internet radio show. We don't get actual airtime in Boston, so the show is not Boston-centric at all. On the blog, we'll talk about the show-we'll post tracklists and mp3s of the show after they're done and preview them when they're completed. If we're having a special theme show, then we'll talk about it beforehand and even let the public decide some of the songs that we'll be chosen. For example, if we're having a Wu-tang tribute show we can let people who read the blog pick their favorite Wu-tang songs of all time and we'll play them on the show.

The second purpose of the blog is to act like a hip-hop blog. Besides posting stuff related to the show, we'll post hot songs that leak or our thoughts on anything when they happen. Even if for some reason you choose not to listen to the show, you can still read this as a hip-hop blog and get a lot out of it.

For the time being, I'll try to fix up the site but add it to your Google Readers or whatever you use to look at blogs. Our first show is going to be Friday at 8 AM. If you want to listen live, I'll get back to you with more information of how to contact us/listen to the show, but if you won't be able to listen live I should have mp3's of the show up Saturday afternoon. So stay tuned, cause we're about to take over. Otherwise...innocent!
